Welcome to RiverBend 2000's Historic Homes of Alton Pages.
Alton's rich history dates back to the days of Father Pere Jacques Marquette and Louis
Joliet. In 1673, they passed along the Mississippi bluffs and the area that is now Alton.
Nearly 100 years passed before Lewis and Clark made their historic journey through the
area. Over the years, many historic events have taken place in the RiverBend Region. Try
our Historic Homes Quiz to learn more. It works best on Netscape.
Internet Explorer may not support the quiz page.
And the homes built in the region reflect the rich history of the RiverBend. In the next
few pages, we will give you a taste of the Historic Homes of Alton. The pictures on the
following pages can't do justice to the actual homes, so we suggest you visit Alton in
person to get the full experience. If you want to learn more,
stop by the Alton Convention and Visitor's Bureau to
pick up your copy of the Historic Alton Driving Tour for only $2.75. The book has a guided
driving tour, historic facts, and wonderful sketches of some of the area's finest examples
of architecture.
