EAGLE PHOTOS...

KWEaglePerchTreeBluffs.jpg (13633 bytes)If you're intested in eagle photos, then you will want to spend time in  Don Johnson's and Keith Wedoe's photo galleries.  On their pages you will find some of the best shots available of the American Bald Eagle.  The photos are taken annually as the Eagle's make the RiverBend their home for the winter, dining on fish along the Mississippi River. They soar above the bluffs between  Alton and Pere Marquette all winter long.

YOU CAN SEE REAL BALD EAGLES ...
If you drive from the Alton Bridge up the Great River Road National Scenic Byway thru Godfrey, Elsah, Chatauqua and Grafton.  It's also a great bike ride.  You can see eagles all the way to Pere Marquette State Park and beyond.  Click Here for tour info from Alton to Pere Marquette - Distances, Pics, Amenities.

The Fireworks display on the Mississippi River in Alton's Riverfront Park is always a good time.  This year's photos of the show were taken from Christian Hill, using the park and Clark Bridge as the backdrop.

ANIMAL MAGNETISM - Download
The St. Louis Zoo offers the chance to get up-close and personal with many animals.  If you get the chance to come to St. Louis, plan time for the zoo. (800 x 600, 1.96 meg)

ON THE RIVERFRONT...

FIREWORKS ON THE MISSISSIPPI is the Fourth of July Celebration held in Riverfront Park in downtown Alton.  Each year RiverBend 2000 publishes photos from the artist's.  Again, different perspectives of the same events provide some great shots.  Keith Wedoe's fireworks photos of the 1999 show were taken with the Clark Bridge as the backdrop.  Paul's fireworks photos of the 1998 show are framed by downtown Alton and his 1999 photos were taken from Christian Hill, west of the Clark Bridge.

THE LOVEJOY MONUMENT SOARS over the skyline of Alton, visible as you enter town from the Clark Bridge.  Lovejoy was murdered because of his anti-slavery views.  Click Here to see photos of the three-pillared monument.

COMING TO VISIT...

SEE THE RIVERBEND...
If you are planning a trip to the region, then you will want to visit each of our artist's categories.  There you will find photos taken from all over the RiverBend including many shots of the
bluffs along the Mississippi River

THE CLARK BRIDGE is a favorite photo op. among the locals.   Each artist adds his own flavor to their photos to produce many different perspectives of the bridge.

HISTORIC HOMES ARE PLENTY in the RiverBend.   Each October, a dozen or so of the homes are open to the public during the Historic Homes Tour of Alton.  Visit the  Alton CVB to purchase you very own Historic Alton driving tour guide to some of the area's more famous homes.  You can also buy local postcards from some of RiverBend 2000's Gallery Artists.

THE TALLEST MAN IN THE WORLD was Robert P. Wadlow of Alton, IL.  If you're plannning to visit, then take a few minutes to stop by the life-size statue of him in Upper Alton near the SIU-Dental School Campus.  If you can't get there in person, Click Here to see our photos of him.

IT'S PRONOUNCED PIE-UH-SAW...
The infamous dragon-like Piasa Bird  terrorized the Indians living along the Mississippi Bluffs.  The bluff-painting of the monster was discovered by Lewis and Clark on their expedition in the 1800's.  Don't miss the Piasa Bird when you visit us!

ANIMAL PHOTOS AT THE ZOO...
One of the region's most visted attractions is the St. Louis Zoo.  The zoo is a great place to take pictures of many different types of animals close up and personal.
