 | The Robert Wadlow Statue One of the area and world's most famous persons, Robert Wadlow is the tallest know man. He was 8'11" tall. the "Gentle Giant" died when he ws 22 years old. The statue in Upper Alton is a must see when visiting Alton. Stand next to the statue in awe of the size of this man. |
| The Lovejoy Monument Elijah P. Lovejoy gave his life in the battle for freedom of man and speech. He was murdered on november 7th in 1837 by a proslavery mob. The Monument is located in the Alton city Cemetary at Monument and 5th Streets. It stands 93 feet tall. |
