UC Berkeley Students Asked to Give DNA

schoolbook

Refuse this outright if you are a student attending Berkeley.

The students will be asked to voluntarily submit a DNA sample. The cotton swabs will come with two bar code labels. One label will be put on the DNA sample and the other is kept for the students own records.

The university says they will be used to educate the students about their own tendencies.  Will the school use samples to match DNA in criminal cases at the school or in the community?

Once the DNA sample is sent in and tested, it will show the student’s ability to tolerate alcohol, absorb folic acid and metabolize lactose.   The results of the test will be put in a secure online database where students will be able to retrieve their results by using their bar code.

One has to wonder if the school can keep the information secure on their computers so that it will not end up in the hands of others.  This is a big brother scheme that should be scrapped before it ever starts.
