Red State points out the credibility gap when it comes to special interests groups in politics. Unions are one of the most powerful special interest groups in the United States. It seems every piece of legislation from the administration has a Union payoff neatly tucked away inside the language.
…while Obama expects us to hate one kind of “special interest” (the ones that control Congress’ behavior) he makes no similar effort to rise up against those “special interests” that exert such similar control over his own behavior.
His recess appointment of Craig Baker, a lawyer for the labor organizations SEIU and AFL-CIO, is more proof of preferential treatment given to the Unions at the expense of the workers he supposedly champions. Why do the voices of reason not trumpet the fact the unions have ruined manufacturing in this country? How many of us pay nothing for our health care plan or pensions? Governor Christie of New Jersey is experiencing the Union greed first hand. How many of us would jump at the chance to pay only 1.5% of our health care costs? His plan includes this reasonable requirement.
Requiring all current public employees to contribute at least 1.5 percent of their annual salaries toward their health benefits, and all future retirees to contribute at least 1.5 percent of their base pension to their health benefits.
And you wonder why government is so inefficient. Talk about a sweet heart deal. Unions have ruined the schools. We have thrown money at education for decades. What kind of return have we received on our investment? Lower test scores and a generation of illiterates. The union membership needs to rise up against the fat cat union bosses. Ridiculous collective bargaining agreements only serve to destroy those they are meant to help. Look no further than the auto industry to see the damage done by this special interest group. Reasonable agreements with reasonable payments could provide the security these workers need for retirement. Obama’s selective persecution is no accident. He is beholden to the largest special interest group in the country – UNIONS.
